NOTE: World Naked Bike Ride – SF organizers have announced that the March 2020 ride has been cancelled:
ATTENTION: Although we are far below the mandatory 1000 person gathering for event cancellation, with the current status of COVID-19 and the fact that rain is forecast anyway, the March 14 World Naked Bike Ride- San Francisco southern hemisphere event is canceled
If possible, we’ll try to hold the next WNBR for Earth Week in April
WNBR – SF Facebook post, March 11, 2020
Here’s our original post:
On March 14, San Franciscans will doff their duds to participate in the Southern Hemisphere edition of the World Naked Bike Ride.
The international World Naked Bike Ride seeks to protest the global dependency on oil and fossil fuels. Participants are encouraged to shed their clothes (as bare as they dare, down to full nudity if they wish) and use human-powered forms of transportation (like bicycles, skateboards, roller blades) to travel through the City drawing attention to the cause.
The March edition is for cities in the Southern Hemisphere, but San Francisco’s temperate climate allows participants to join in solidarity. There will be additional rides in late April for Earth Day, early June, and late July.
Participants meet northwest of the Ferry Building, between the Farmer’s Market and the Starbucks west of the Ferry Building. We begin gathering at 11:00 AM in the open area along the pier. Please gather as close to the railing and avoid blocking pedestrian traffic on the Embarcadero and also those exiting the Ferry Building. We will have time to do body/face paint and reacquaint ourselves. Bring body paints, watercolors and markers to apply slogans and designs to each other and adorn your bikes with signs.
Although this is not a gay event, lots of gays have participated in the past.
