Note: For the first time in the show’s five-year history, Baloney has been cancelled. The Baloney boys’ other event, Sausagefest, will still occur on March 13, 2020.
Co-creator Michael Phillis’ message about the cancellation reads in part:
…to perform a show about physical intimacy in the current climate feels, at best, tone-deaf, and at worst, dangerous. The last thing we want is to put you or our community at risk. Though there are obvious and very frightening personal financial repercussions to consider, our bigger concern is that the beloved brand of beautiful escapism we offer is simply not attainable at this time. This will be the thing on folks’ minds whether they come to the show or not, and no amount of glorious singing, dancing, stripping, and queer sexual freedom will help any of us pretend like this thing is not happening. It will color the show, and our decision to do it, in ways that are not worth the potential reward. It’s a uniquely terrible thing when pursuing your livelihood suddenly becomes socially irresponsible!
