For 25 years, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence has held an annual Easter celebration that includes an egg hunt for children, an Easter bonnet competition, fabulous drag and non-drag performances, and the annual highlight: a Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary contest.
The event is traditionally held at Dolores Park, but was briefly moved to Golden Gate Park when their home park was being renovated, and at least once was moved to the Eureka Valley Rec & Park Center because of rain.
But now, for the first time in the event’s 25-year-history, COVID-19 is forcing the event to be moved to an unusual venue for the first time: online.
According to the Bay Area Reporter, after first announcing that the event would be postponed until the fall, the Sisters have now decided to hold the event on the Sisters’ Instagram page: @SFSisters.

Our Easter In The Park celebration may be on hold this year but never fear, Foxy Mary and Hunky Jesus will rise again! The Sisters are taking their wildly popular annual contest online and inviting anyone and everyone, age 18 and over in the 50 United States, who “feels the Spirit” to submit their holy inspiration for review. A group of highly judgmental Sisters, including Sister Roma and Sister Dana, will peruse the entries and select the top 15 Hunky Jesus and top 15 Foxy Mary contestants. The top 30 entries will be posted to Sisters Instagram account (@SFSisters) on Easter Sunday where the public will “vote” with likes and comments to choose the winner.
HUNKY JESUS / FOXY MARY CONTEST RULES: To compete you must live in the United States, be 18 years or older, and follow the Sisters on Instagram @sfsisters
1) Prepare a short bio including your instagram account name, where you live, your Hunky Jesus or Foxy Mary name, a photo of you in character, and a one minute video featuring your “Holy Inspiration” in action.
2) E-mail everything to contest@thesisters.org
3) Entries are due by April 10th 12am PST
4) The Sisters will pour through entries and select 15 candidates for Hunky Jesus, 15 candidates for Foxy Mary and announce contestants on Easter Sunday.
Voting will be done by the community via likes and comments. One Winner will get a very special gift and world-wide bragging rights as the first ever online Foxy Mary and Hunky Jesus!
